AKA why conservatives continue to lash out at the so-called leftist mainstream media.

Kinja'd!!!

Let’s open with the New York Times:

“President Trump lashed out at undocumented immigrants during a White House meeting on Wednesday, warning in front of news cameras that dangerous people were clamoring to breach the country’s borders and branding such people “animals.”

Mr. Trump’s comments came during a round-table discussion with state and local leaders on California’s so-called sanctuary laws, which strictly limit communication between local law enforcement and federal immigration officers, and which the Trump administration is suing to invalidate. It was hardly the first time the president has spoken in racially fraught terms about immigrants , but it underscored his anger about unchecked immigration…”

Following this hard hitting expose is a tweet from NBC’s Andrea Mitchell:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Now let’s see what ACTUALLY happened:

“Sheriff Margaret Mims: There can be an MS-13 gang member I know about. If they don’t reach a certain threshold I cannot tell ICE about them.

President Trump: We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — we’re stopping a lot of them. You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people, these are animals, and we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before.”

To twist this into anything other than Trump speaking directly about MS13 is journalistic malpractice. And this is just one more example of why conservatives continue to lash out against traditional media outlets.

Thanks for playing this mornings Politics with MKbruin....

Um what.

If Trump didn’t talk like a 5 year old maybe people wouldn’t take it out of context.

You know damn well that’s not true. People take everything out of context.

Literally the first lawsuit homeboy was involved in was for violating the Fair Housing Act and denying residency to prospective black tenants. He settled it, happy that the agreement did not “compel the Trump organization to accept persons on welfare [read: black people]   as tenants unless as qualified as any other tenant.” Given his public statements and the statements of people he has put in positions of power, it should be no stretch of the imagination that Trump favors people as white as the circles around his eyes.

What’s wrong? There are good people on both sides. My thoughts and prayers are with the media to give this honest decent man a fair shake, and for him to form more specific thoughts.

While I agree that people on both sides use overly dramatic language, especially the likes of MSNBC, I don’t think that Trump really knew what was going on here. From the bit you quoted, It’s almost like he didn’t listen and then talked straight past the issue and started talking about how terrible immigrants are. Also, the Obama administration did remove a good number of people here illegally if I’m not mistaken but Trump wants to gloss over that.

Because only black people are on welfare, right?

I hate having to read the entire article looking for the context.

Unfortunately, with Trump, you kind of need to because of his word choice.

Unfortunately because of the media looking for clicks, they present the headline to make it sound worse than it is.

I rarely do it, but I’ll defend Trump on this one.

The only people the Trump organization turned away were black. The organization stated they did not want to accept “persons on welfare”. So, their reasoning for turning away literally every black person that requested housing is because they thought they were on welfare.

No president ever gives credit to a previous president, unless they are republican and they are talking about Regan.

I would just like the news, in context and factually correct. That doesn’t sell or make for good headlines though. So I’m stuck with what we have.

WaPo, the most “liberal” msm source (one that worked to take down one corrupt regime and we can all hope it takes down this idiotic Putin-managed trainwreck - I’ll support Bezos for this alone) even used proper context:

I think some people just like to play the victim.

Nope. This has been common practice for years, Trump or not.

Take “snippets” and report it out of context for effect. Just about every news source I can think of does it. It can also be tough to go after the outlet in question for misrepresenting you.

“There can be an MS-13 gang member I know about. If they don’t reach a certain threshold I cannot tell ICE about them.”

What the fuck is this guy talking about? If they don’t reach a certain threshold he can’t tell ICE about them? ICE has absolutely no problem detaining anyone they suspect of being undocumented. They’ve held people with green cards for months. They arrest humdreds of people at a time without any evidence of them being undocumented.

Educate yourself on what they’re talking about and you’ll see how full of shit they are. Although common sense should tell you that anyone who talks like this is probably lying to you.

Also, if this guy is so concerned with MS13 violence, then why does he demonize people seeking refugee status from Central America?

True but that is also why you should speak in clear and concise tones to not be misinterpreted.

Over half of Trumps problems are self inflicted.

ICE will, but local law forbids it. A little thing referred to as “sanctuary cities”, perhaps you’ve heard of them?

That might help, but it’s not that simple.

It is some people’s job to cut, snip, and manufacture your words. Speak clear and concise all you want, but that won’t matter if they associate it with different context.

It is entirely possible that after Person A makes a comment about a specific group of people, Person B can respond with a generalization about a larger group of people of which Person A’s group of people is a subset. Especially when Person B only says “people” with no additional words to specify the people to whom they are referring.
